happy thursday, aka friday eve my sweet friends! can you even believe that we’re in the month of September now? i really cannot, but i am excited for all of the pumpkin recipes. i have actually been making Easy Vegan Pumpkin Pasta Sauce for years in my blender and happy to share it with you!
this sauce is as simple as it gets, i mean, we’re talking real, nutritious and basic ingredients that are used to make this.
while it looks like a cheezy sauce, it’s not meant to emulate a mac n cheeze sauce or anything. there’s no nutritional yeast or cheeze replacement.
you’re of course more than welcome to add some nutritional yeast to the sauce, it would taste just as delicious.
for the first time in forever, i went to the store to buy canned pumpkin yesterday and there was an abundance, which won’t last long.
come to think of it, i totally should have stocked up but oh well, there’s always next time.
besides the pumpkin, which you may actually have sitting in your pantry, you likely have every other ingredient.
even if you don’t have sriracha, if you have hot sauce, you can use that as a replacement.
i think the hot sauce is a perfect addition and gives a little bit of a spicy kick without being overwhelming at all.
while this sauce is best served with pasta in my opinion, you can of course put it on other things too!
also, i highly highly recommend serving the pasta sauce with a vegan cheese of sorts.
the two i recommend are vegan ricotta or vegan mozzarella.
the vegan ricotta i used is kite hill and i find it at sprouts/Whole Foods. the other great option would be miyoko’s mozzarella, which is sold at lots of places!
if you can’t find either of those, use whatever vegan cheese you like, i just think those two add a tangy component that goes so well with the pasta + sauce.
all you’re going to need are the following ingredients!
- canned pumpkin puree
- dairy free plain unsweetened milk
- dijon mustard
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- sea salt
you can use a blender or a food processor, either will work well! you don’t have to cook the sauce either, it’s that easy!
just make sure you either add it to warm pasta or warm it though a bit before serving.

Easy Vegan Pumpkin Pasta SauceCourse: Lunch & Dinner, PastaDifficulty: Easy
- 1 box pasta of your choosing
3/4 can pumpkin puree
1/4 cup plain dairy free unsweetened milk
1/2 tbsp dijon mustard
1-2 tsp sriracha
1/2 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tbsp onion powder
1/2 tsp sea salt or to taste
- vegan cheese for topping
- cook the pasta according to package directions.
- add all sauce ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until a smooth consistency.
- add to the pasta, warm through and add some vegan cheese to the top if you would like! see text for brands and varieties i recommend.
