What is Melopita?
Melopita is a traditional Greek honey and cheese dessert that is beautifully simple and made with just a handful of wholesome ingredients. It is most commonly found on the island of Sifnos and is known for its creamy texture, delicate sweetness, and signature honey and cinnamon finish.
Unlike classic cheesecake, melopita is lighter, more rustic, and not overly sweet. It allows the natural flavor of the cheese and honey to truly shine.
This version is inspired by tradition but made more macro-friendly using Lifeway Farmer’s Cheese, which adds protein while still delivering that creamy, authentic texture.
Taste
This melopita is lightly sweet, warm, and comforting. The honey provides natural sweetness without being overpowering, while the cinnamon adds a cozy, bakery-style flavor.
There is a slight tang from the farmer’s cheese that balances everything perfectly, giving you that cheesecake-like flavor without the heaviness.
Texture
Think thick, creamy, and sliceable.
Once chilled, it sets into tall, beautiful slices that feel like a cross between a custard and a cheesecake. The edges are slightly firmer, while the center stays soft and creamy.
Blending the farmer’s cheese is key here, as it creates a smooth, velvety texture instead of anything grainy.
