Crispy Tofu Tenders with Homemade Dipping Sauce

vegans and those looking for a meat free option rejoice, there’s a healthy and super easy alternative to chicken tenders! please welcome my newest recipe, Crispy Tofu Tenders with Homemade Dipping Sauce! this recipe is super easy to put together, made with minimal ingredients and packed with flavor.

i’m not sure which i love more, the dipping sauce or the crispy tenders. honestly, it has to be a tie because they both compliment one another so well.

there’s enough sauce and crispy coating for the tofu tenders to make about 21 ounces, maybe even more. i used 1 and 1/2 packages of extra firm tofu.

if you’re lookin to make a LOT, you can always double the recipe.

it is VERY important that you use extra firm tofu and also get rid of as much liquid as you can.

i don’t own a tofu press, but a couple of paper towels works well!

that’s what i used! i simply wrapped up the tofu tightly and pressed down a bit until a fair amount of liquid was extracted.

then, you can cut the tofu into thick strips. after that, you’re going to need some avocado oil and i used avocado oil in a spray bottle from Trader Joe’s.

you can then spray the tofu on each side and coat the strips in the flour mixture. as far as tofu, i recommend either Nasoya or Trader Joe’s brand!

if you’re wondering what all is in the flour mixture, it’s really simple! here’s what you need:

  • oat flour

  • coconut flour

  • flax meal

  • onion powder

  • garlic powder

  • chili powder

  • paprika

  • umami seasoning

  • sea salt

like i said, you will need some oil and i recommend avocado oil because it’s so mild and does well with the higher heat. also, let’s talk about the dipping sauce!

as y’all know, i fully pride myself in my sauces. from pasta sauces to dipping sauces, it has to be good, like SO DANG GOOD.

the key to this deliciousness are sun dried tomatoes, which are total gems and i wish i utilized them more in my recipes.

on top of the sun dried tomatoes, the rest of the flavors come from garlic hummus (use store-bought), barbecue sauce, sriracha, veggie broth and maple syrup.

so the barbecue sauce i use, which is primal kitchen doesn’t have any added sugar, but if yours does, you can probably just omit the maple syrup.

only half a tbsp is needed to perfectly balance the flavors.
