Nourishing Vegan Chocolate Smoothie Bowl

back when i was living in ohio, a smoothie bowl during the winter time was a rarity because it was simply too cold for me. now that i’m in florida, i’ve been bringing back the smoothies and didn’t realize how much i missed them.

you don’t need to live somewhere warm to enjoy them though, just cozy up with your favorite blanket, pjs and a cup of warm tea for after your smoothie bowl!

smoothies and smoothie bowls are fantastic because the options are endless. often times, i find myself throwing the most random ingredients one can find into the blender. usually, it works out great and the smoothie turns out perfectly but sometimes, the combo just doesn’t work no matter how much peanut butter and banana you add lol.

this particular combo has long been a favorite in the upbeetandkaleingit household. my husband and i enjoy my Nourishing Vegan Chocolate Smoothie Bowl so much because it tastes like a vegan milkshake and it’s very filling. that’s key for me!

if i’m going to have a smoothie/smoothie bowl for breakfast or lunch, it’s going to have to be filling with some sort of healthy fat. that comes from the tahini, coconut cream AND whole avocado i add! trust me, it makes a HUGE difference in the smoothie texture. you won’t be able to taste the avocado, which is a good thing because my Nourishing Vegan Chocolate Smoothie Bowl is supposed to be like a milkshake.

an avocado milkshake sounds kind of meh… other ingredients like banana, chocolate protein powder (any works), dates, cocoa powder, coconut cream, hemp hearts, almond milk and tahini just make it bliss. no added sugar is necessary because between 1/2 banana and medjool tastes, the smoothie tastes plenty rich!

just to outline the above, here’s exactly what you need:

  • medjool dates

  • banana

  • tahini

  • almond extract

  • avocado

  • cocoa powder

  • chocolate protein powder

  • hemp hearts

  • almond milk

  • flax meal
